Bangalore, May 28: With reflective glass, white rexin, hydraulic lifts, and air-conditioning; not to mention a multimedia sound and light' show with the best of equipment, the Rs 30 crore ISKCON temple and cultural complex to be formally opened here by President Shankar Dayal Sharma on May 31 promises to be a unique destination for the Krishna devotee.
ISKCON Bangalore President and Project Director Madhu Pandit Dasa told mediapersons today that Rs 26 crore had already been spent on the complex, now six years in the making. The Vaastu based architecture combines traditional elements with modern ones, and polished granite co-exists with glass, and burnished gold.
"There is a misconception that we are getting 'foreign aid' for this project. All the money has come from the business community in Bangalore," he said.
There are five temples in the complex - Sri Krishna Balaram, Sri Balaji Venkateswara, Sri Radha Krishna Chandra, Sri Nitai Guranga, and Sri Narasimhadeva and Prahalada.
The complex has an air-conditioned theatre that can seat about 450, where a 'multi-vision animatronics show' on Krishna consciousness will be shown. The show features panoramic visuals, digital surround sound, theatrical lighting, smoke and fog effects, and animated figurines. "We have imported all the equipment, and the government of India gave us customs duty exemption."
There are also conference rooms, an 800 seater samskara kendra, a 1,500 capacity dining hall and a vedic museum.
